Mistery of Death Valley´s Sailing Stones SOLVED
The death Valley is one of the most mysterious places on the planet. Is precisely there where occurs a phenomenon so strange that from 1940 it has been studied and is that in that place the stones "walk" alone. After more than seventy years of speculations of all kinds, from Paranormal phenomena, magnetism and alien interventions to the most diverse geological theories, U.S. researchers believe to have finally solved the mystery of the sprawling stones that move alone in the death Valley, California (USA), These rocks of all sizes seem to come alive in Racetrack playa, a dry and flat Lake 1,130 meters above the sea level in which they leave a trace of movement, as if they are moving to pleasure. The traces left in the soil can go in straight line or be curved, prolong is until tens of meters and mix some with others.

So far, despite all the attention that have arisen, nobody had seen really move the rocks. But the last month of December, Richard Norris, Oceanographer of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the Jolla (California) and his cousin James Norris, engineer, they become in the first witnesses and even captured images of the phenomenon in action. Time-lapse, a weather station and GPS-toting cameras, they recorded the first direct scientific observation of the movements of the stones. The study published by the journal PLOS ONE, explains that everything starts when rain produces a layer of water on the dry ground above the Rectrack, forming a kind of surface lake. And then comes interesting, water reaches its freezing point during the night, forms a thin layer of ice between 3 and 6 mm which they are trapped the bases of the rocks.
When the Sun comes out, naturally the ice begins to melt and fracture. As result huge plates of ice are formed, and then the phenomenon, due to light winds happens - contrary to what was thought - the rocks begin to move on ice plates at a rate of between 2 and 5 metres per minute forming the famous grooves. Paths that follow the stones depends on the speed and direction of wind and water that is under the ice. Was the case of a stone which travelled 60 meters without stopping.
Witness this natural phenomenon is so rare that the stones move few minutes in a few occasions when the circunstances are ideal. And although many have spent years studying the place, until December of last year could be see stones in movement, as seen in the video below we share.
